Rysan Stud Dogs
Our dogs have not been used extensively at stud-and we're fine with that...Being responsible for producing a successful litter of puppies for another breeder is a huge responsibility. When it goes right, everyone's happy. When it goes wrong, no one's happy...Dealing with the hopes and wishes of breeders looking for the next National Specialty winner or SpGr placer is tricky. We enjoy our interactions with reputable breeders and look forward to the results of breeding activities. But we always breathe a sigh of relief when the litter is on the ground and we get a chance to evaluate the next generation of puppies. We keep our fingers crossed that there are worthy candidates for show training, and that the breeder will be satisfied with the quality of the litter. If we succeed in those two areas, we're happy stud dog owners.
As part of the stud dog process, we maintain a supportive presence where our dogs are used to produce puppies. This means we assist in litter evaluation, and offer our knowledge about what we know our dog has produced in other litters, or what we know of the dog's own development from puppy to adult. We do not insert ourselves as a third party in the relationship with breeders and prospective owners, since we feel this is not the intent or spirit of responsible breeding. Before allowing our dogs to be used at stud, we have satisfied ourselves regarding the reputation of the breeder and the quality of their breeding stock and established a trusting relationship with the breeder.
We do not write stud dog contracts that request puppy buyer information, microchip numbers, or unenforceable requirements for health testing. These are all activities that the breeder is responsible for, not the stud dog owner. We maintain a friendly relationship with the breeder, and request to be kept in the loop for health or temperament issues that may arise in the litter, encourage the collection and distribution of health information and of course like to see photos of the puppies as they develop. If a re-homing issue arises down the road with a puppy produced by one of our stud dogs, we would offer assistance to assure the puppy a good placement, exactly like other Welshie breeders would do in a similar situation.
Below is a list of the dogs we own or co-own who have produced puppies. Pedigree and photo information will be added as the page develops.
